I really shouldn’t care about this

Unless you live under a rock, or are my tech-blog-reading-only husband, you probably know that Katie Holmes has filed form a divorce from Tom Cruise and is suing for sole physical and legal custody of their daughter, Suri. There is a lot of speculation that she has made a break for it because she doesn’t want Suri raised in the nutso cult of Scientology, and there are even reports that Katie is being stalked by Scientology informants.

I really shouldn’t give a shit about any of this. It’s not like I move in their circles. My six degrees of separation from both of them is probably a seven. The closest I have come to either of them is the fact I have driven in both Louisville, KY and Toledo, OH (their hometowns, BTW). I will never meet these people. Their drama has zero effect on my life.

Nevertheless, I actually care. I think it is mainly because I have come to despise Tom Cruise, who is a cheater who spews bullshit about medication and thinks women with post-partum depression shouldn’t take antidepressants. Cheaters and narcissistic bullshit artists tend to annoy me.  I can’t even watch his movies anymore, because I cannot suspend disbelief that I am watching some asshats pretend to be yet another heroic figure.

Therefore,  I sincerely hope, with all my heart, that Katie gets custody of Suri and keeps her safe from the cult of Scientology. I honestly believe that Scientology “audited” Tom’s children with Nicole Kidman into “choosing” to live with him (and thus under scientology control), so full custody is probably her best hope of keeping Suri from being brainwashed away from her maternal and into the clutches of those Xenu-fearing wackadoodles. Scientology is well know for ripping families apart after brainwashing a new victim. Right now it is hemorrhaging members, including high profile people like L. Ron Hubbard’s granddaughter.

For the record, I would also encourage anyone to flee a husband who wanted to indoctrinate their kids into Westborough Baptist Church or Al-Qaida. It’s not the belief in the intergalactic war with Xenu that bothers me about Scientology – it’s the mind control and divisive aspects of it. I don’t trust any cult or splinter group of a religion that isolates you from non-members to keep your thoughts “pure”.

Run, Katie! Run!

    Exactly.
I was so surprised about this because I have thought that she seemed very vacant and brainwashed on oprah when tc jumped the couch years ago and that he was probably really controlling of her. Bravo to her for protecting her child.
And I am waaay more interested in this stuff than I should be. Also his anti-ppd propaganda is despicable.

  2. aw girl, you’re in trouble now. your spaceship will be arriving shortly. please await further instructions.

  3. Years ago I went to a ‘job interview’ that turned out to be a front for scientology. It was a struggle to get out of there. I had 4 dollars to my name and I needed to put it in my gas tank to get home. After a couple of hours I gladly gave them the 4 dollars for the damn book. Then I left, called my dad to meet me at a gas station and loan me money and threw the book in the gas station trash can.
    Run, Katie, Run is right.
I’ve never liked Cruise, though. To me he is the poster child for Napolean complex. The only movie I liked was Jerry Maguire and frankly, it would have been better with someone other than him playing Jerry.
I don’t get his appeal for people.
