Remember how the far-right, driven by their loyalty to Mammon and his High Priests the Koch brothers and his Church of Big Oil, used to deny global warming was happening? Then they denied that it was caused by rising CO2 levels from burning fossil fuels? Well, they are starting to admit that global warming is real, and even to admit that humanities uses of fossil fuels is the mechanism for the climate change. However, they are also insisting that climate change isn’t causing ANY problems that we can’t learn to live with and the only trouble with burning fossil fuels is to make sure we have plenty of it.
Seriously.
ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson has gone on record to assure us that yes there is global warming and yes fossil fuels are the problem but we should not worry our pretty little heads about it. Tillerson admitted that “burning of fossil fuels is warming the planet” but he assured us that our fears are “overblown” because “society will be able to adapt”. In fact, Tillerson is really upset we are believing the evidence all around us and the warnings of climatologists when we should only be listening to what he is telling us. The evil environmentalist party poopers and the news media have just scared us because we are just too ignorant to understand the importance of unchecked fossil fuel extraction:
Tillerson expressed frustration at the level of public concern over new drilling techniques that tap natural gas and oil in shale formations under several states. He said environmental advocacy groups that “manufacture fear” have alarmed a public that doesn’t understand drilling practices — or math, science or engineering in general. He blamed “lazy” journalists for producing stories that scare the public but don’t investigate the claims of advocacy groups … The industry’s biggest challenge, he said, is “taking an illiterate public and try to help them understand why we can manage these risks.”
Huh. You mean we don’t understand that even though fracking causes serious health and safety issues, including causing earthquakes, poisoning aquifers, and making tap water flammable, we shouldn’t make a fuss because we can count on Big Oil to take care of these problems for us. We are just too ignorant to understand that oil spills are no big deal, and that our right to drive a Hummer is way more important than the long-term impact of global warming, which Big Oil doubts climatologists really understand.
Apparently fracking water contamination, oil spills, and global warming are not what’s worrying Big Oil. Tillerson maintains that the real problem facing the fossil fuel industry is “taking an illiterate public and try to help them understand why we can manage these risks.”
Yeah. Big Oil has done a great job taking care of our environment for us, and we should continue to trust them without any questions, hesitations, or doubts!
Thank Mammon we have patriarchal icons like Rex Tillerson, who made $25.2 million in 2011, to look out for us illiterate, ignorant rabble. After all, if we are dumb enough to think the current droughts and whatnot are bad, then what won’t our gullible asses fall for next!

I don’t care what his face looks like but the lies issuing forth from his mouth, that I care about. Evil. Pure evil.
Everytime I think about fracking my head wants to explode. The stories around my state abound and still people are signing up because of the money they get from the gas companies. I about had a seizure when my in-laws gave a right-of-way for them to bring the pipes through their yard. They said everyone around them had signed and the well was going in whether they signed or not. I pointed out that their ground water was at risk and to please make sure the gas co. guaranteed they would bring water to them – free – if their well got contaminated. When I asked here recently if they got the water issue covered, my MIL said they had everything taken care of but wouldn’t look at me or give me a straight answer. They are drilling now and I wonder, To Drink or Not To Drink….
Well, if you put a match to the water and it explodes, don’t drink it. Seriously, it may be contaminated. I have no idea where to get it tested :0(
