All the Whovians down in Whoville like the Doctor a lot

Doctor Who returns to us soon!

For some reason the trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who won’t let me in embed it, but you can go here to watch it.

*spoilers maybe*

I, for one, am so excited I can barely see straight. Once upon a time, I was ambivalent and skeptical about Doctor Who renewed. However, by the time the first (renewed) season (with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor) got to episode 9, “The Empty Child” I was hooked and enthusiastic about the fresh foray into the Time Lord. Then I feel madly, passionately, in like with David Tennant’s take on the Doctor. “Blink” became my benchmark for good plot lines, and the Weeping Angels became quantum-locked in my brain of one of the creepiest things ever. Sweet Babou and I became raving fans of Stephen Moffett’s writing. He right up there with Joss Whedon in term of giving us nerdgasms.

Then disaster struck. David Tennant was leaving the show! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

The final episodes with Tennant in them made me sob.  I was already predisposed to disliking the 11th incarnation of the Doctor and Matt Smith did not inspire me to change my mind during his introduction. I was a bitter, bitter Whovian as the season began in 2010. But lo – Matt Smith did win me over with his excellent acting, damn him, and it was good again. Moreover, I formed a deep and abiding attachment to Amy, Rory, and River Song. The idea of the Lone Centurion made me bawl like a sentimental baby.

And now it will be back soon!

Joy!!

  1. Becky says:

I am such a Donna fan. The end of series four completely broke my heart. Matt Smith’s not a bad Doctor, but nothing in the last couple of seasons has worked for me like that did.

  2. Nat says:

Oh my goodness! Me, too! When MY Doctor erased Donna’s memory I bawled like a baby! And I can’t even discuss Tenant’s last shows without weeping! But Matt Smith won me over, too – I was kicking and screaming the whole way, though. The episode with Van Gogh made me cry.
(I’m sensing a theme) And now I can’t wait for the new series either!

My kiddo and I still say “hey! who turned out the lights?” at bedtime!
