The movie Won’t Back Down, which is a privately produced anti-union propaganda piece, was released to theaters last week, but happily, it has tanked at the box office. I could not be more thrilled. It was bankrolled by the same right-wing nut job as the “documentary” Waiting for Superman, a film with all the accuracy of the spoof This Is Spinal Tap but without any of the charm.
There are lots and lots of articles out there about why Won’t Back Down is lying crap on a cracker, so Imma talk about the asshat behind it all, Phil Anschutz. Anschutz is gunning to become a new, less-improved Rupert Murdoch, and is trying to set the “newspaper” he owns, The Washington Examiner, up as Faux News, Jr.
Anschutz is a complete twatwaffle. He is a big player among the global warming deniers, tramples on the rights of Native Americans, hates the very idea that LGBTQ people are humans who should have the same rights as their fellow citizens, is an “education reformer” who is trying to shove creationism into schools, and is trying to bring fracking to a town near you. Most appalling to me, as a Christian, is that he is claiming to perform all these acts of selfishness, greed, and bigotry because he is a “devout” follower of Jesus like some of his other far-right billionaire buddies.
Considering that Anschutz hurts people to add more lucre to insane pile of wealth, while Jesus was explicitly against that kind of behavior (but didn’t mention homosexuality) and focused on helping the poor and oppressed, I call bullshit on Anschutz’s religious principles. He is “devout” all right, but in service to the teachings of Mammon, not the guy from Nazareth.
However, even Mammon, as active as he is this world, cannot help shill that cowpat “movie” of Anschutz’s, not even with famous people staring in it. Frankly, that makes my day a little brighter.
I love it any time Team Mammon sucks lemons.
He sounds like a real loser. Hopefully he’ll be smacked down sooner, rather than later.
