Another girl has committed suicide because of the vicious torment of slut shaming. Fifteen year old Felicia Garcia jumped in front of a subway train while several of tormentors looked on, slinging slurs until the moment she died. Apparently she was being tortured, particularly by the football players, because she purportedly had sex with four members of the football team at once during a party.
First, I don’t know if the sex was consensual but it sounds like it COULD have been a gang rape after she was rendered “pliable” by drugs or alcohol. That’s is too common a scenario not to be considered. Secondly, if it WAS completely consensual it still does not excuse the behavior of the bullies slut shaming her. After all, there were four guys participating as well and not a single one of them has been driven to take his own life to avoid social ostracization and humiliation.
If she did have sex voluntarily, I wonder what her motivation was? Was she only seeking approval from guys who SEEMED to like her at the time or was it genuinely pleasurable for her? Heartbreakingly, this young girl was an orphan in foster care, therefore she might have been trying to find love from anywhere because she was so painfully alone. It just tears my guts to know that poor child had no mommy and no daddy to turn to. She must have been so terrifyingly isolated. She must have felt death was a better than never being loved, which she no doubt despaired of after she was rendered a pariah by the same cuntmonkeys who were willing to avail themselves of her body.
Girl in the foster system are very likely to be sexually abused … girls that have been sexually abused are more likely to be sexually active and have mental problem … is that why she had sex with the boys? Was she pressured? We may never know, because it will be easier to think of her as a slut who committed suicide because she was “weak” than to hold a patriarchal society and privileged individuals accountable for their actions against Felicia Garcia.
In a display of “respect” her school’s football team, the Tottenville Pirates, are postponing their game tonight until Sunday. Wow. What heroes. I am sure they are really hurting, and by really hurting I mean “worried they will be held accountable for their shitty and sadistic behavior”. Golly, how awful it would be for them if they were shamed for the rest of their lives for driving a child into her grave. I hope my belief in God is correct, so that this poor child is finally at peace and reunited with her parents. I also hope God greets her bullies and gives them as much mercy as they showed Felicia Garcia, which isn’t terribly Christian of me but I am old skool smitey about justice.
Please God, let Felicia Garcia finally have the love and justice she did not receive here on earth. Please.
I’ve been seeing it so often recently, even among boys in our school. Talk about girls who are “giving it away” by the boys who’d certainly like to be giving it away. I hate that double standard.
If this poor child was drugged into accepting sexual acts we may never know. So criminal action is unlikely to occur. So I’m not going to speak to that.
What I want to say is this. It doesn’t matter why she had sex, or how many people at once, or anything else. No one is shaming those boys for all having sex with the same girl at a time. Every woman gets to have sex in accordance to her own moral compass. Same as every man. There is no shame. I am so tired of the double standard. I think I may have to start changing things.
I agree that she was probably reaching out for acceptance and ‘love’ of any kind. How sad for her and how reprehensible are the actions of the hoodliums who most likely took advantage and/or pressured her. I’m making the call and sharing the story. Someone has to speak for Felicia. And someone must answer for her treatment. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. <3
I agree with Kate. It doesn’t matter what occurred between that poor girl and those boys. Nothing excuses the behavior of those bullies. Nothing.
As far as I am concerned, those bullies are guilty of manslaughter and should be prosecuted (or whatever the equivalent is in the US).
My head exploded. I can never be rational and sane about this stuff.

This is just too sad for words.
Wow, this one sure hit home for me, on SO damn many levels. I’m focusing love and light in Felicia’s direction right now. But, I already know that she is very much at peace and surrounded by so many who genuinely care about her. She is a giving and beautiful soul who is teaching with her life.

Oh, that’s horrible. That poor girl, that even her last minutes were so full of cruelty.
And y’know something? I don’t believe in god or an afterlife myself, but damnit, this is the kind of moment when I wish I shared your perspective on it. That girl didn’t deserve to suffer like that. Her tormentors will probably never face the consequences of their actions. I wish I did live in a world where that wasn’t so
