Guess who uses government programs? You do!

There is a LOT of bitching and moaning about government programs, and hysterical hair-pulling over the fact lazy poor people suckle off the government teat. People act as if taxes simply take hard earned money out of the banks of hard working Americans and use it frivolously to make sure that mythical “welfare queens” live high on the hog.

The same people who complain with such vigor NEVER seen themselves as the recipients of government largess. Well, it turns out that MANY of those people are both delusional AND full of shit. Here is a handy dandy chart – from a paper by Dr. Susanne Mettler — showing the percentage of people who have gotten, or are getting, government assistance, but who think they have never used a government social program. These are the kinds of people who join the Tea Baggers and hold aloft signs saying, “Keep Government out of my Medicare”.

This doesn’t even count things that people take for granted that are paid for by taxes. Bet people would squeal if they had no cops, or fire departments, or roads, or sewage systems, or mail, or traffic lights, or garbage pick up, or a rescue squad with paramedics. Bet they would cry if they didn’t have a standing army. Bet they would even be sad without zoos, parks, and libraries. Did you go to a public school? Then you were educated by taxes, asshat – STFU and pay the teachers already.

Am I happy with the shit my government does with it’s money? Not always, for sure. But my main issue with taxes is that the rich don’t pay their fair share.  I pay taxes because I like to have roads and what not. I am just funny that way. Furthermore, I am not dumb enough to think those things magically appear without tax revenue.

Tea baggers – you are stupid wankstains. Please go away until you can find a fact, or at least the definition of a fact. Thanks.

  1. Bridget says:

You’re my favorite person. Ever. I think most teabaggers couldn’t even spell fact. Case in point: Sarah Palin. I think we should move them all to an island and let them see how their ideas work out.

  2. KarenB says:

Excellent idea, Bridget! Many of them wouldn’t recognize a fact if it bit them on the butt. And they will re-write wikipedia to align with their version of fact, which would, in fact, be fiction.

  3. Luna says:

Also? They’re narcissistic bastards. They matter. You don’t. Plus, hello! They’re going to be rich next week when the American Dream ™ is reached, and there’s no way they’re voting for a tax hike for their future selves!

  4. Cheryl Vogel says:

Do you think sweet sarah even realizes where the money came from for her alaskan governor’s salary, mansion, office, phones, staff, plane, etc for the half term she was there?

  5. christin says:

A friend shared this link with me this morning. I totally heart you and your straightforward no bs post. More of these idiots should read this before they open their mouths.

  6. Robin S. says:

    Amen.

  7. lunarmom says:

I cannot possibly top these fine and intelligent reader’s remarks above mine, but I can say thank you, from the wife and mother of a cop, for realizing what a fact looks like, and for caring that there are people living below the national poverty line who are, in fact, doing their jobs to protect even the asshat idiots. Because it’s the right thing to do. Unlike them (those who are screaming and bemoaning), who are just ungrateful ignorant cretins and wouldn’t know fact or right if it bit their stoopid faces off.

  8. Clever Betty says:

My brother and I were discussing something similar today. See rural KY here is teabagger country. All the asshats vote republican. They also want Obamacare abolished. They don’t want a national heath care system because that’s socialism.
Here’s the thing – do you have any idea how many of these people around here who go to the polls and vote this way, are on disability? I can tell you it’s way over 50%. They get disability so that means our taxes are footing the bill for their medical expenses so fuck everybody else.
You may think I’m exaggerating but I guarantee you I’m not.

    • Ex-Canuck says:

Wow, the rant by palkovic just about encapsulates everything one needs to know about most of the tea-baggers. I say “most” because I am excluding those who are intelligent enough to be running the scam. BTW palkovic, what are you going to do when you need Medicare or Social Security assistance? If you and your cultists keep this up, both of those things will be gone. Also BTW, do you consider your welfare check part of a program?

      • ADNK says:

Well . . palkovic clearly did NOT avail himself of the public edumacation system.at least.

    • kbc in wyo says:

I guess you do not even have spell check on the computer.

    • eve fromm says:

You might need a spell check, and I think your Caps Lock is stuck in the “on “position. You might want to take a look at that.

  11. Maluco Jal says:

Clearly Richard, you never asked the government for anything, especially an education.

  12. Disheartened, and former, democrat says:

Yes, governments are useful for things other than wars, and governments (State, Local and Federal) touch (if not shape) most of our lives on a day-to-day basis. Most of us thankfully use government services which we pay for. Some rich and independently wealthy, and most corporations, see governments as getting in the way of more wealth. I’m not holding my breath for things to change, but I am hopeful. Unfortunately, the good ole USA is full of ignoramuses like Richard above.

  13. Rob says:

I don’t think you have made your point sufficiently clear. /snark

  14. Kathy Cox says:

How amazing Richard! I’ve not met anyone who has never driven (or walked or biked) on a public road, mailed a letter, stopped at a traffic light, used a public library, benefited from the security of having a police or fire department, visited a county, state or federal park…you must be Somalian.

Love the assumption that if anyone uses a government program they must be on drugs. Project much?

  15. Betty Fokker says:

I do so love the vast majority of my commenters! Y’all are greatness with awesome snark. My Sweet Babou tells me I am being called a big stoopid poopy-head over on the pingback site, but I am not heading over there. What truth could I possibly tell them that would penetrate their “knowing”? Still, I hope at least one person (clearly not Richard) learned something or was inspired to look at facts and, you know, THINK.

  16. twitches says:

    The government has “owen bills”?

  17. Doc Murdock says:

What a $%^& moron. A tax credit or tax deduction is simply paying less taxes, it is not use of any government service. GI benefits are the benefits earned by the GI’s for being employees they are not government services. Social Security benefits paid to those that paid into the Social Security System are not use of government funded programs, it’s not government funded when you fund it yourself. Liberals love to mix government provided unearned benefits with those earned by government employees for being employees. Don’t lump us hard working tax paying Americans in with the moochers, leeches and parasites.

  18. Doc Murdock says:

“The rich don’t pay their fair share” what a bunch of crap. 70% of the taxes in the US are paid by 10% of the population….that is the population that makes about $100k a year. The progressive tax system that we have is nothing but pure socialism.

THE SOCIALIST MANTRA: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”
Utopian Socialist Henri de Saint Simon
Karl Marx, 1875 Critique of the Gotha Program

Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people’s money. Margaret Thatcher, Feb 5th, 1976

  19. Betty Fokker says:

Actually, “93 percent of all financial wealth is controlled by the top 10 percent of the country”, so they aren’t paying their “fair share”, even if your statement weren’t false. http://www.mybudget360.com/top-1-percent-control-42-percent-of-financial-wealth-in-the-us-how-average-americans-are-lured-into-debt-servitude-by-promises-of-mega-wealth/

Jesus said, in Luke 12:33, “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.” My gosh, looks like Jesus was for redistribution of wealth! I think Jesus trumps both Marx and Thatcher.

Thatcher (an her cabal) destroyed the English economy. The rich became meg-rich and the middle class slipped down, just like in the USA. Here’s a summery:http://against-tory-cuts.blogspot.com/2011/03/tony-judt-one-of-great-political.html

It’s very sad that you truly believe so much incorrect information fed to you by the right-wing, who are outsourcing jobs hand over fist and just pissed our credit rating down the drain.

  20. demotivator says:

I do believe all the ideas you have presented to your post. They’re really convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for beginners. May just you please prolong them a bit from next time? Thank you for the post.

  21. Jl says:

“The rich don’t pay their fair share.” Glad you backed that up with such well- reasoned, detailed facts. Just making a statement makes things true there days, I see. Great debate technique.
