Scott Olsen

Scott Olsen is a 24 year old marine veteran. Scott Olsen risked his life, like many other marines, pulling two tours of duty in Iraq. Scott Olsen came home to a country with massive inequality, and wanted to continue to serve his country by protesting this inequality with Occupy Oakland, another offshoot of Occupy Wall Street. This right to protest is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the constitution of the United State of America, the country he served so bravely. Scott Olsen is clearly a patriot.

Scott Olsen was shot in the head, probably with a tear gas canister, which fractured the left side of his skull. Scott Olsen was fired on by a giant pile of chickenshit  stuffed inside a uniform and working for the Oakland police department as an “officer of the law”.

Scott Olsen is in critical condition, and his brain may be swelling. Did he survive Iraq, only to be murdered by his government?

The Oakland police department is really, really sorry that they may have slaughtered a veteran that it got caught doing something so heinous. They have taken immediate action to punish the asshat who did this to blame the protesters and minimize their own culpability. So far, the Oakland police “admit that they used tear gas and baton rounds, but have denied the use of flash bang grenades.”  Too bad there is LOTS of video that proves they are a bunch of lying goat fuckers.

The attack that injured Scott Olsen, unsurprisingly, did not make the Occupy protesters go away. In fact it has pissed a hell of a lot of people off, and made the 99% way more determined to be heard.

Please take some time and send a get well card to Scott Olsen:

He should know there are many of us who recognize his continued bravery and sacrifice for his country.

Edit: Good news! His condition has been upgraded to fair!

  1. This is truly heinous. I will be sending a card. Thank you for bring this (and other) important issues to my attention!

  2. SuzRocks says:

Wow, I definitely haven’t read about this in the daily news. That is crazy and totally not ok.

  3. Robin S. says:

What crap. And the sad consequence of this is that good, decent police officers are going to be paying for this in extra trouble.

  4. Chuck says:

You mean the guy who founded the website, I Hate the Marines? That Scott Olsen?

    • Betty Fokker says:

It might be … I can’t confirm it. He has the same name, at least. If it is him? Well, I have met men my dad’s age who were less than thrilled with the service when they returned from Vietnam. It doesn’t mean they didn’t serve, or that their bitterness negates their sacrifices. Did Scott Olsen resent the corp during/after his tours? Again, I don’t know for sure, since I don’t know if it the same Scott Olsen who wrote the blog. I do know that ANY vet who has done a tour in a war zone is entitled to, at the minimum, not being assaulted — either because he is protesting a war he came to hate OR is supporting our involvement in it.

      • Chuck says:

Sorry, but I’m not moved. If you are part of a mob, you get what the mob gets. And before you try to tell me that the poor peaceful sweethearts of Oakland were set upon by a band of pigs, read this from Mother Jones:

And then there’s this from the S. F Chronicle: “They didn’t have to force police into that situation,” said Helen Walker, 46, a nurse from Albany. “It was TOTALLY PROVOKED, and if I could have, I would have stopped those idiots from throwing paint.” (my caps)

Am I heartless bastard? I don’t think so. I’m sorry the guy may have permanent brain damage. But I firmly believe that there are consequences for our actions, and if the guy was taking part in a violent protest, oh well. *shrugs*

  5. Didn’t know if you heard but Scott Olsen’s speech center of his brain was permanently damaged and the doctors are now saying that he won’t be able to speak, ever.. Those cops permanently silenced his freedom of speech. :(
