The Proof is in the Puddin’ Heads

At the beginning of the 113th Congress, there were 108 Members (20% of the total membership) who had served or were serving in the military, 10 fewer than at the beginning of the 112th Congress (118 Members) and 12 fewer than in the 111th Congress (120 members). According to lists compiled by CQ Roll Call, the House currently has 88 veterans (including 2 female Members, as well as 2 Delegates); the Senate has 18.

The raw numbers of GOP congress members who have served in the military are greater than the number of elected congressional Democrats that have served, but you would never know it from the way a pack of Republican asshats voted in February to block the veterans bill:

“Senate Republicans blocked the veterans bill by using a procedural maneuver to invoke the 60 vote rule. The final vote to waive the budget point of order failed, 56-41. Only two Republicans (Sen. Dean Heller and Sen. Jerry Moran) joined with Democrats on the vote. Republicans claimed that they blocked the bill because Majority Leader Harry Reid would not allow an up or down vote on an amendment that would have attached sanctions on Iran to the bill.”

Although more Republicans in congress have served in the military (which makes their betrayal of veterans doubly heinous), many of the bloviating blowhard “hawks” and far right, teabagging idols/idiots have not. Some wonderful person on did the nation a huge favor by compiling the list of famous politicians and political mouthpieces service (or lack thereof) in the military – where, when, why, and why not. Turns out there are more Chicken-hawks than eagles among the rapacious, pro-war raptors. Go figure

The far right jackholes who are all about fighting wars while they stay safe at home are:

* Cheney: did not serve. Several deferments, the last by marriage. Investigated by the FBI for treason as head of Haliburton for secret deals with Libya and Iran, both terrorist enemies of the United States of America while those nations were under US sanctions for direct involvement in the deaths of US military personnel and civilians. I sneer at these twatwaffles so hard my lip cramps.
